About us
Our story
The basic idea behind Afford won an award in the 2003 student business development program at the Budapest University of Economics, and the company was launched in 2004 with the funding it received as a result. The small, high-quality service provider was successful from the outset, so much so that it soon attracted the attention of a larger, well-capitalised translation agency that made an offer to acquire Afford. In 2006, the company's founders accepted the offer, which meant capital investment and market growth for the company. The move proved to be a good decision, and the translation and interpreting agency has grown steadily to become one of the 10 largest Hungarian translation agencies, with 20 permanent employees, more than 300 vendors, and annual turnover of 200-300 million. This growth necessitated the development of a much more serious personnel and technological background, transforming the initially low-cost, inexpensive agency into a mid-range company with a serious professional and technological background, focusing on value for money. Afford has also achieved significant success in this part of the market: not only do many very serious international companies work with us, but also the European Union and the United Nations, among others. In 2024, we launched our "EU training for professional translators" program, which trains professionals who can directly join our work for the EU DGT as translators, proofreaders, or quality assurance specialists.

EU training for professional translators
We, the Afford Translation Agency staff, have created this highly practical, intensive training course to share the significant translation experience and special knowledge we have gained over the past 15 yearsthrough our translation projects for the European Commission's Directorate-General for Translation (DGT).
